If you’ve ever looked for Procreate brushes, you already know how easy it is to fall down the rabbit hole.
There are thousands of brush packs, endless reviews, and someone is always claiming they’ve made the only brushes you’ll ever need.
We believed that too.

When we started drawing in Procreate, we kept downloading new brush packs because we thought the next one would finally give us the look we were after.
It never really worked.
The problem wasn’t that we didn’t have enough brushes. We just hadn’t spent enough time learning the ones we already had.
Before we realised it, we were spending more time looking for brushes than actually drawing, and that wasn’t why we started making art in the first place.
These days our brush library is much smaller than it used to be.
Not because we deleted everything, but because we found the brushes we genuinely enjoy coming back to.

What Makes a Good Procreate Brush?
For us, the best brush is the one you almost forget you’re using.
After a few strokes it just feels natural, and instead of wondering which brush to try next, you’re thinking about the drawing itself.
Some artists like perfectly clean lines with lots of stabilisation.

We’ve always preferred brushes with a bit more texture because they remind us of real pencils, ink, and paper.
Neither is better.
It’s simply about finding the tools that match the way you like to draw and the style you want to create. Once that’s clear, choosing the right tools becomes much easier.
You Probably Don't Need Hundreds of Brushes
This might sound a little strange coming from people who make Procreate brushes…
…but honestly, you probably don’t need hundreds of them.

Most days we use the same few brushes over and over again.
We’ve realised that once you stop searching for the “perfect” brush every time you open Procreate, drawing becomes much more relaxing.
Instead of thinking about tools, you start thinking about ideas again.
And that’s a much nicer place to be.

Every Brush Starts by Hand
Everything we create starts away from the iPad.
Usually there’s paper, pencils, ink, and plenty of messy sketches spread across the table before Procreate is even open.
Then comes the testing.
Sometimes a brush feels right almost immediately.
Sometimes we rebuild it so many times that we lose count.
We don’t mind.
We’d much rather spend an extra evening refining a brush than release something we wouldn’t enjoy using ourselves. That’s also why we don’t use AI to generate our brushes or textures. The little imperfections are exactly what we’re trying to keep.

As tattoo artists and illustrators, we build every collection around the kind of brushes we actually wanted to have in our own workflow.
If we don’t keep reaching for a brush ourselves, it doesn’t make it into the final pack.
Three brush packs we'd recommend exploring next
People often ask which brush pack we’d recommend first.
Honestly, we’d start with the free one.

Our newsletter subscribers get a free Procreate Brush Sampler with brushes from several of our collections, and it’s probably the easiest way to see if our style feels like a good fit for yours.
If you enjoy those brushes, these are the three collections we use the most ourselves.

🖋 Midnight Ink Pack
Whenever we’re drawing ink style illustrations, or taking part in Inktober, this is usually the first brush pack we reach for. The ink brushes have enough texture to feel traditional while still giving you clean, confident lines.

✨ SketchSpell Set
Almost every illustration starts here. Loose sketches, ideas, composition, little notes in the margins… this is the set we keep opening because it feels the closest to drawing with a real pencil.

🖍 Crayon Magic Pack
If your goal is artwork that feels warm, soft, and handmade, this is probably our favourite colouring set. The textured brushes make digital colouring feel much closer to traditional pencils and crayons without losing the flexibility of working digitally.
We’d love your ideas
Can we ask you something?
Is there a brush you’ve always wished existed?
Or maybe there’s something in your workflow that always feels a little frustrating.
If there is, we’d genuinely love to hear about it.
👉 Click here to tell us.
(It’ll take you to a short Google Form.)
We read every response ourselves, and more than once an idea from our community has ended up becoming part of a new brush collection.
Thank You 💛
Whether you’ve downloaded one of our brush packs, joined our newsletter, followed along on social media, or simply stopped by to read this blog… Thank you.
Every order gives us another chance to keep creating the kind of brushes we always wished existed. More importantly, it lets us keep building the slower, more creative life we dreamed about when we started Ink Wild Brushes. We’re really happy you’re here, and we hope our brushes become part of your own creative routine.
